Round Rock straddles the Balcones Escarpment, and that geological divide creates two very different paving environments within the same city. East of Interstate 35, the Blackland Prairie clay is deep, dark, and extremely reactive to moisture. Round Rock summers regularly push past 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and that heat oxidizes unsealed asphalt faster than in cooler climates, shortening the gap between sealcoat cycles.

Round Rock is the county seat of Williamson County and sits roughly 20 miles north of downtown Austin along Interstate 35. The city is one of the fastest-growing communities in Texas, expanding from a small town into a city of well over 100,000 residents over the past few decades.
